** Very fragrant pea like bright-yellow flowers in pendulous racemes to 18", in summer, blue-green foliage, but not much of it, needs full sun, tolerates heat and drought, needs pruning for neatness, generally grows on limestone in the wild, native to Mediterranean Europe. Noxious weed in California.
Spanish Broom ( Spartium junceum , syn. Genista juncea ), also known as Weaver's Broom , is a perennial, leguminous shrub native to the Mediterranean region in southern Europe , southwest Asia and northwest Africa , where it is found in sunny sites, usually on dry, sandy soils.
It is the sole species in the genus Spartium , but is closely related to the other brooms in the genera Cytisus and Genista
Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours.
Stratification: cold stratify for 90 -120 days.
Germination: sow seed 3/8" deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed.
