Pasque Flower (Anemone Pulsatilla Vulgaris White) - Pasque flower is a long time favorite of many flower gardeners, and it is often looked for around Easter.
Some gardeners will sow Anemone flower seeds in the fall directly outdoors. Or, the flower seeds can be sown indoors in starter trays and then transplanted outside in the spring. Pasque Flower plants form low tufts or mounds of ferny green leaves, bearing crocus-like flowers with single to double fringed white petals. They are hardy and drought tolerant once they are established and suitable for xeriscaping.
Pulsatilla Pasque Flower grows well in any sunny location, and they also will tolerate light shade. You can divide these plants if you want to enlarge your selection, or allow them to self-sow their flower seed. Fluffy seed heads provide summer interest until fall when these seed heads drop their flower seeds. Cut them back in late fall
This well-known native plant, commonly referred to as the May Day Flower, Meadow Anemone, or Easter, may also be known simply as Anemone patens, Pulsatilla patens, or Pulsatilla nuttalliana, particularly in South Dakota where it is the state flower.
