'Lord Lieutenant' Anemone Bulbs - Very Hardy Perennial ~ Ready To Ship
General Description

Native to the Mediterranean, poppy-flowered anemone is a tender, often short-lived perennial with showy flowers in late winter, early spring, or a few months after its bumpy tubers are planted. Introduced before 1927, the cultivar 'Lord Lieutenant' has deep blue, semi-double flowers with three rows of "petals." Borne on calf-high stems above clumps of divided, ferny leaves, the solitary, poppy-like blooms have a large, dark central disk. Often planted at intervals to provide continual year-round bloom in greenhouses or mild climates, poppy-flowered anemone can also be used as an early-blooming garden perennial where hardy.

Happiest in a site shaded from hot sun, Anemone coronoria prefers rich, loamy soil, even moisture, and a dry rest after bloom. Plant the tubers shallowly in early spring, or almost any time of year where they are hardy. The leaves die back after bloom, so give this plant companions that leaf out later and fill the void (e.g., hardy geraniums). This is a good plant for texture and color in a container, a moist woodland, or a rock garden. The flowers are excellent for cutting.

Planting Growing Instructions
Anemones should be planted at least 3-5cm deep and no less than 10cm apart. It is highly recommended that you soak the bulbs in water for one day prior to planting. While they do not object to partial shade, they thrive best when planted in an area with plenty of access to sun. The richer the soil, the more flowers each corm will produce. They are an excellent choice for borders or rockeries, but can also be grown in pots or containers provided they are not given any heat.
