This Heirloom Blue Popcorn is a highly appealing variety, with small kernels and a striking blue hue. The ears typically measure 4-6" in length, making it an excellent choice for popcorn enthusiasts.

This variety of Corn Seeds - Popcorn, Dakota Black, has a growth period of 95 days. It is known for its captivating appearance, producing 5-7 inch long ears with 15 rows of pointed kernels that are a rich ebony-red color. While it makes for a stunning autumn display, be sure to also savor the delicious creamy white popped kernels. This plant can reach heights of 4-6 feet.

Sowing:To properly plant the Shaman's Blue heirloom popcorn seeds, first prepare the soil with compost or other organic matter. Then, plant them 1" deep and 8-12" apart once the soil consistently reaches 60 degrees F, which is typically one week after frost. For optimal pollination, plant in blocks of four short rows. With a germination time of 5-6 days, these seeds are a reliable choice. To further benefit from companion planting, consider pairing corn with cucumbers, peas, or pole beans, as well as plants that thrive in shade. It is advised to avoid planting tomatoes near corn.

Growing: Once the corn has sprouted, ensure that it stays well-watered and regularly remove any weeds. Adding mulch can be beneficial as corn cannot effectively compete against weeds. Utilizing organic matter or compost can aid in growth, as corn is a heavy consumer of nutrients. It's important to note that corn has shallow roots that are vulnerable to damage when hoeing. Be on the lookout for pests, as corn is susceptible to various troublesome insects and animals.

Harvesting : For optimal results, allow the corn to fully dry on the stalks in the field until both the stalk and ears are entirely brown and devoid of any green coloration. However, if weather conditions are not conducive to drying in the field, consider continuing the drying process indoors. Choose a dry, moderately warm location that is free from direct sunlight and either hang the stalks upside down or lay them flat.
