Convallaria (Lily-of-the-Valley) Pronunciation: kon-va-lair'ee-uh
The Lily-of-the-Valley plant produces dainty blossoms in the springtime with a pleasant aroma and the ability to act as a natural carpet for your garden. It is a low-maintenance plant that thrives at eye level and is known for its expansive rhizomes. While it may not bloom initially, it will quickly multiply.
Lily-of-the-Valley flowers bloom in mid-spring on arching stems, with a cherished fragrance and waxy appearance. Easily grown, this plant makes great ground cover and can be enjoyed indoors in a vase. Hardy in zones 3-7.
Planting Bareroot Plants: We ship dormant plants wrapped in shredded paper and plastic. Keep them cool and out of direct sun until ready to plant. Water if dry and remove packing material before planting. Plant pips 1 inch below soil level, spreading roots like a wheel. Space pips 6in apart.
Light/Watering: Lily-of-the-Valley relishes well-drained but moist soil and does best in partial shade. It will grow in the sun if soil moisture is consistent, but the foliage may not look its best.
Fertilizer/Soil and pH: These easy-going plants are not particular as to soil conditions, but grow best with a soil rich in humus that is slightly acidic. Feed lightly in spring, and mulch with compost or well-rotted manure in early fall.
