Sowing: For quicker growth, start squash seeds indoors a month before the last frost using peat pots. Plant two seeds per pot and remove the weaker seedling.. Prior to transplanting, acclimatize the seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions for a few hours each day during the week. When the soil temperature reaches an average of 65 degrees F, plant the seedlings in nutrient-rich soil, spacing them 8-10' apart in rows 10-12' apart. Alternatively, you can create hills of two seedlings, with each hill also spaced 8-10' apart.To direct sow, plant Bennings Green Tint Scallop Summer squash seeds when the soil temperature reaches at least 70 degrees F.
