These ornamental grasses are excellent for the front of the border, and the blue-green color complements colorful ornamentals. Blue Fescue has traditionally been viewed only as a clumping ornamental grass with a few plants spaced in a landscape bed, but Blue Fescue grass also mixes well with wildflowers and does not crowd them out. A low maintenance ground cover can be created by using Blue Fescue ornamental grass seed.
The waxy leaf covering reduces transpiration so the Blue Fescue plant can survive extended droughts and the stress of a drought only deepens the color of the ornamental grass. Blue Fescue is one of the shortest ornamental grasses available, with the foliage not exceeding 12 inches in height, so mowing is only needed to remove seed heads if desired. It has good winter color and looks green during this period. Blue Fescues are very shade tolerant, often found in the dry shade of trees. Blue Fescue plant care includes cutting the plant back to 2 inches in the early spring. Trim flower heads to prevent self-sowing. This ornamental grass seems to prefer some neglect.
How To Grow Blue Fescue Ornamental Grass From Seeds: Blue Fescue seeds can be started either indoors in late winter or directly outside once frost danger has passed. For indoor sowing, use small peat pots or containers, fill with seed starting mix, and press 3 ornamental grass seeds into the soil. Lightly cover the grass seeds and keep them moist until germination. For outdoors sowing, weed and loosen the soil and add a generous amount of seed starting mix to the soil. Space the Blue Fescue grass seeds about 12 inches apart. Once seedlings are about 4 inches in height, bunch the leaves together and trim off 1/2 inch or so. Trimming encourages greater root development and a uniform look. Start the seed in late winter and plant the seedling out in spring.
Scarify the Seed
Seeds with hard outer coats require scarification to germinate -- the breaking of the coat to permit moisture to reach the embryo within the seed. In nature, scarification is accomplished in a number of ways, including freezing temperatures and transmission through avian digestive tracts. Scarify the draco seeds by using a scalpel or nail clippers to chip away a small section of the seed coat. Don’t cut too deep, just enough to allow moisture to reach the embryo.
Plant the Seed
The planting medium provides the moisture that the seed’s embryo requires to germinate. Choose a soilless medium such as sand or peat moss and moisten it thoroughly. When it’s dried to barely moist, fill up a planting container and lay the seed on the surface of the medium. Dracaen draco seeds require light to germinate so barely cover it with sand. This top layer, although thin, prevents the top of the seed from drying. Spritz it often with water from spray bottle.
Care During Germination
Dracaena draco is native to the sub-tropical Canary Islands, with an average winter temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit and an average summer temperature of 85 degrees. The tree’s seeds, then, require warm, moist soil to germinate. The best way to provide these conditions is by using a heat mat to provide bottom heat to the planting medium. Set mat’s thermostat to between 77 and 85 degrees, set it in a sunny area and then place the germination container on top.

Post Germination
As soon as the draco seed sprouts, which may occur within eight weeks or may take substantially longer, begin gradually lowering the heat mat’s temperature, over the course of a week, until it is turned off. Give the draco seedling lots of direct sun and continue to keep the soil moist. Dracaena draco is a slow-growing plant but it should be large enough to plant outdoors by spring. If you prefer to continue growing it indoors, ensure that it’s placed in a room with temperatures between 70 and 75 degrees and that it gets plenty of sunlight.
Select your desired size and color from the available option
Juncus ensifolius - a.K.a Dwarf Rush,Ornamental Grass, Swordleaf Rush.
It is native to much of western North America from Alaska to central Mexico, and into eastern Canada.
Juncus Ensifolius
Rush (Juncus ensifolius) - Ornamental grasses offer so much, yet they require so little! The name Undaunted™ is a registered US trademark name held by Colorado State University that is used to indicate plants selected by Lauren Springer-Ogden & Scott Ogden that come into the Plant Select® program. The seed strain used for this form of Muhlenbergia reverchonii, and also a previous introduced form called "Autumn Embers", are from collections made by Lauren and Scott in 2003 from north Texas near Fort Worth. After ten years of testing this grass in numerous garden locations, this form was observed to be more robust and more cold hardy than plants growing to the south and has exceptionally showy, pinkish-red flowers. The clumps also remain more attractive as they lack the curled up dried leaves common with this species. Our first plants were from seed that was shared with us by Panayoti Kelaidis. Lauren Springer-Ogden noted that this plant is one of the longest lived grasses she has grown and has performed great with summer heat and thrives in heavy and alkaline soils so it will likely do very well in the hot interior valleys of California. The German naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber (1739-1810) named the genus Muhlenbergia for Gotthilf Heinrich (Henry) Ernst Muhlenberg (1753-1815) who was American born but returned to his ancestral Germany for schooling and later returned to America. He was an ordained Lutheran minister but devoted his free time to the study of the botany. The specific epithet honors Julien Reverchon (1837–1905), a well-known Texas botanist. Usually this six petaled yellow flower will begin to bloom in April and doesn't stop until the end of July. It is also called Golden-eyed Grass and even Golden Blue-eyed Grass, but its not actually in the grass family, but rather it is a member of the iris family. It works well in rock gardens, cottage gardens, at the front of borders and along pathways. Use Sisyrinchium californicum Yellow-Eyed Grass in woodland areas and allow it to naturalize in informal settings, or for a more traditional setting, combine it with other low-growing ground covers like creeping thyme or a sedum. Sow Yellow Eyed Grass seed if you are looking for a star performer!

How To Grow Yellow Eyed Grass From Ornamental Grass Seeds: Golden Eyed Grass seeds do well with a cold treatment. The ornamental grass seeds can be sowed in a cold frame outdoors in early spring, or moisten some peat moss, place the peat moss and seeds into a ziploc plastic bag and place in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. Then, sow the Sisyrinchium californicum seeds indoors, pressing the seeds down into the soil and keeping them moist. Transplant out after danger of frost has passed. Golden Eyed Grass likes moist but well-drained soil and a light application of low nitrogen fertilizer in early spring. Divide plants every 2 - 3 years in the early spring. Foliage darkens in fall and can be cut back in early spring before new growth begins.

Grass Specifications

Season: Perennial
USDA Zones: 8 - 10
Height: 8 - 12 inches
Width: 12 inches
Foliage Color: Green
Flower Color: Yellow
Environment: Full sun

Planting Directions

Temperature: 65F
Average Germ Time: 9 - 14 days
Light Required: Yes
Depth: Press into soil, do not cover
Sowing Rate: 4 - 5 seeds per plant
Moisture: Keep seeds moist until germination
Plant Spacing: 12 inches
Select your desired size and color from the available option
Sweet vernal-grass is a short, loosely tufted, perennial grass. It is the earliest grass to flower in a meadow; its yellowish green spike-like heads typically appearing in early May.
