SIZE: 100 Seeds

A drought-tolerant, perennial flower, Blue Flax (Linum Perenne) produces petite pastel blue flowers (1/2 - 1 inch in diameter) on light, arching branches from its tough, expanding clumps. Unlike many wildflowers, it can be grown in all regions of North America and thrives in full sun and loose, dry soil, making it an excellent choice for xeriscape landscaping or gardening.

Blue Flax is a perennial plant known for its beautiful, clear flowers that bloom in late spring. The slim stems bear clusters of buds that open to an inch wide and have 5 petals. These buds will continue to bloom over the course of several weeks, opening in the early morning and dropping their petals by midday. Thanks to their abundant buds, Blue Flax plants produce a profusion of flowers throughout their blooming season. Additionally, they will naturally reseed themselves for the following spring.

Sowing: Direct sow in late fall or early spring, planting just below the surface of the soil. This species does not transplant well.

Growing: Water occasionally, controlling weeds to allow the seedlings to become established. Full growth and flowering usually does not occur until the second season of growth. Mature plants tolerate drought well, but flourish with occasional watering. Unless the seeds are being harvested, cut back the plant after flowering to allow for new growth next season.

Harvesting: These blossoms do not perform well as cut flowers, and are best enjoyed outdoors.
