Size: 1 Packet-10 Seeds
Italian Winter Squash Seeds - Open-Pollinated. Marina di Chioggia is a stunningly beautiful variety with deep ridges and bumps. Variability in color adds to its charm, ranging from aquamarine to very dark green, many with bumpy textures. Though fruits grow quite large, averaging 15 lb, they have such eye appeal that growers report they are hot sellers. As delectable as they are handsome, even those harvested in 2009’s horrific squash year won accolades from our staff for their dense moist texture, rich sweetness and real substance. Delicious baked, in pies; ideal for gnocchi and ravioli
Simmer in dashi or chicken broth with sugar and soy sauce. Add mirin towards the end of cooking. Prepared in soups, stews, baked, grilled and tempura.
  • Warm season annual
  • Approx. 6-8 seeds in packet. (A seed will vary in weight and size within a given seed lot. The number of seeds stated is only an estimate.)
  • Maturity: Approx. 110 days
  • Planting season: Late spring to early summer

Winter Squash Marina di Chioggia. Very old variety from near Venice. 4-5 pound round fruit, grey/green knobby skin with sweet orange flesh. Essential for great soup, gnocchi, roasting. Excellent keeper. 105 days. 5 gram packet.
PLANTING: Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in late spring/early summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. Seeds will rot if soil is too wet or cold. Hill planting: Form soil into a 1' diameter mound 3-4" tall. Space mounds 4-6' apart. On each mound plant 1-2 seeds. Row planting: See spacing info in chart. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Hand pollination may be necessary. The vine can be trained to climb a vertical support for better air circulation and ease of harvest or left to sprawl on the ground. After harvest, winter squash should be left in the sun for a few days to cure before storing
