Sowing: For optimal growth, cucumbers should be planted directly in a peat pot early or sown directly in the soil. To start indoors, gently place 3-4 seeds 1/2" deep in the pot and maintain an air temperature of at least 80 degrees F. Once the seedlings have 2-3 leaves, trim all but the strongest plant with scissors. Before planting, acclimate the seedlings to outdoor conditions by exposing them to daylight. Wait at least one week after the last spring frost to plant when the air temperature averages 65-75 degrees F. For a hill placement, space 3 seedlings or 7-8 seeds in each hill, keeping hills 4-5' apart. If rows are preferred, space seedlings 1' apart or plant 5 seeds and later thin. As cucumbers thrive in heat, protect them from even light frost by covering the seedlings. To save space and produce straighter cucumbers,

Growing: Maintain consistent moisture in the soil and use mulch or straw to preserve moisture levels and prevent weed growth for optimum results. Protect against harm from cucumber beetles by promptly removing them. This particular variety boasts high disease resistance. When cold temperatures are forecasted, cover seedlings to protect against frost, as cucumbers are not able to withstand it. For space-saving and easier-to-harvest cucumbers, consider using a trellis. Additionally, planting cucumbers with corn or radishes can repel pests, but avoid planting them near potatoes or herbs.

Harvesting:

Harvest Poinsett 76 cucumbers at 6-8" for best slicing and 3-5" for pickling. Consistent harvesting results in high yield. Store in fridge.
