Aster (Aster Alpinus Pink) - Easy-to-grow from Aster seeds! This intense pink Aster thrives in full-sun and in fertile but rather dry soils. Aster plants do well in the rock garden, front of the border or in containers. Water deeply during dry spells, but avoid wetting the foliage. Butterflies and bees will love the Aster flowers. Aster Alpinus is an early-blooming species. It forms a low carpet of bright green leaves, bearing taller branching stems with daisy-shaped flowers in late spring and early summer. It is not as long-lived as some, but it will freely sow its own flower seed to produce successive generations if allowed.
Asters perform best in full sun, but they will also provide a nice display in partial shade. Aster plants prefer well-drained soil that has been incorporated with organic matter. Deadheading promotes continued blooming. Sow Aster flower seed indoors in early spring using starter mix. Press flower seed into soil and barely cover. Transplant into the garden 12 inches apart.
