Periwinkle (Vinca Rosea Dwarf Little Linda) - This stunning ground cover plant has deep rose blooms, and it shows off by blooming from early summer clear up until frost season. The lovely, 2 inch blooms are bold and stand out beautifully in the garden as a ground cover plant or in a basket or pot. Start Periwinkle seeds for a low-growing yet vigorous spreading annual. Vinca plants are exceptionally low-maintenance! They take the heat, do well with poor soil, and don't even need deadheading to bloom continuously.
Grow Vinca Rosea ground cover seeds indoors 6 - 10 weeks before the last frost is expected. Cover the seeds with 1/4 inch of potting mix, spray with water to moisten and press down lightly. Periwinkle ground cover seeds will not germinate in any sort of light, so cover trays or containers with a black plastic sheet or a newspaper.
Lift the plastic or newspaper regularly to moisten by misting. Once Periwinkle seedlings emerge, they need bright light. At about 2 - 3 inches tall, transplant the strongest plants into individual pots. Periwinkles can be moved outside once the temperature is consistently above 65F degrees.
Water Vinca Rosea Periwinkle regularly to get it established, but once it is established, it is very drought tolerant. Periwinkle ground clover plants readily re-seed themselves.
