Great for cutting and drying

Gomphrena (Gomphrena Globosa White) - Globe Amaranth is easy-to-grow in the sun-drenched garden when starting from Gomphrena seed. This plant is wonderfully resistant to both heat and drought, keeping its blooms and its fresh foliage looking neat and colorful through the worst heat of summer. A mass planting is a fabulous sight especially when mixed with the other color varieties that come from Gomphrena seeds! Globe Amaranth also belongs in the cutting garden, where you can snip as many of the plentiful blooms as you need to fill your vases. To dry, simply cut the stem at the desired height, trim off any foliage, and hang the flower upside-down in a well-ventilated, dry location.

Gomphrena Globosa plants need full sun to partial shade. They are not fussy about soil type and will even grow in very poor soils. They can glow in beds, borders, containers, pots, etc. Even though they are very drought tolerant plants, they do best with regular watering and fertilizer application. Do not use a high nitrogen fertilizer as this will just lead to excessive foliage.
Plant Gomphrena Globosa seeds either indoors, several weeks before the last frost is expected, or directly outdoors when the temperatures have warmed. If sowing Gomphrena seeds indoors, transplant the seedlings to the sunny garden spot when they are several inches tall. Many gardeners recommend soaking Globe Amaranth seeds 24 - 48 hours before sowing as the water helps to prime the seed for germination. If growing Globe Amaranth from flower seeds specifically for cutting, space the plants closer together to force the growth of longer stems.
