Grow Your Own Fresh Hops for Brewing!

Cascade is an aromatic hop favored by brewers for its large flowers, high yields, and ease of growth. It's perfect for beginners, with low alpha acids and a spicy, citrus-like flavor. Disease-resistant and highly productive, it requires strong support and ripens in August. Named after the Cascade mountain range.. Whether you are looking for an attractive, hardy and easy-to-grow climbing plant to cover a fence or an arbor in your garden, or if you are a home-brewer who wants to craft their beer from your own special home-grown ingredients, the Cascade Hops Plant is a great addition to any garden. Each spring your Cascade Hops Plant will send up strong, attractive leafy shoots and the interesting clusters of hops that look a little like soft, green fir cones develop during the summer months. It has a moderate amount of yellow lupulin. The lupulin develops in tight balls in the cone, which makes it a unique variety. It is good for picking, drying and baling.

Hops have light golden-green, cone-shaped flowers used for making beer and give home brews authentic Old World flavor. The greenish yellow flowers even smell like beer. They can scramble along the ground or grow up fences, screens, and trellises. Provide full sun to partial shade and humusy soil. Ornamental Hops have attractive green foliage throughout the season. The fuzzy lobed leaves are ornamentally significant and look pretty against a fence or trellis but do not develop any appreciable fall color. The flowers are not ornamentally significant. Climbing bine grows 20-25 ft. in a season and is winter hardy in much of the North. Special considerations: Water regularly to keep the soil moist, not wet. Will not thrive in dry locations. Water deep once a week; more in hot, dry windy conditions. Collect mature cones in the Fall and hang to dry. Cut vines down to the ground in late Fall.

Planting Instructions: May be planted in any well-drained soil. Any average to rich, well-draining soil. Dig a hole large enough to encompass the roots without bending or circling. Set the plant in place so the crown (part of the plant where the roots meet the stem) is about 1-2" below the soil surface. Cover with soil to the original soil surface and water thoroughly.
