HOSTA Sieboldiana Elegans Flowers seed
Hosta (Hosta Sieboldiana Elegans) - Grow this lovely addition to the shade garden from Hosta seeds! In addition to making great ground covers in shady areas and excellent foundation plantings along northern foundations that receive little sun, some Hosta plants are large enough and showy enough to use as specimen plants, and this is one! This plant has large, rounded heart-shaped leaves with an attractive puckered surface, in a soft blue green color. The Hosta flowers appear in early summer and have trumpet shaped blossoms, in white with a hint of lavender, that attract hummingbirds and may be used as cut flowers. It is happiest in partial to full shade, and it resists slugs better them some.
Growing Hosta Sieboldiana from flower seed is a simple procedure. Hosta seeds sprout nicely indoors, under normal house conditions, with temperatures running 60 - 70F. Use a "peaty" starter mix and just lightly cover the seed with peat moss. Keep the Hosta seed moist but not saturated until germination. Sow seeds 8 - 10 weeks before frost season ends. Hosta care includes keeping the plant moist throughout the hot months of the summer. As a rule, they need 1 inch of water every week.
