Before sowing Lupine seeds, soak the flower seed in warm water for 24 hours. Use starter trays and peaty soil to sow Russells Lupine seeds indoors, 6 - 8 weeks before the last frost. Keep seeds moist for germination.
Transplant Lupine seedlings when 4 inches tall and after frost danger has passed. Or sow outdoors after frost danger. Sow 3-4 seeds in prepared soil, spacing them 18-24 inches apart. Keep seed moist, then thin to strongest plant at 2 inches. Water well first season and 1 inch per week afterwards for deep root establishment. Mature Lupines will acclimate to environment and only need irrigation in extended heat or drought.
