Planting Mustard Greens :Mustard seeds can be easily planted in soil or starter pots and later transferred. When planting directly, use well-prepared, debris-free soil, and water deeply. Cover the seeds with 1/4" of sifted soil. For starter pots, use high-quality, moist seed starting soil. Place seeds on top and cover with 1/4" of sifted soil. Fertilize after germination and plant at a height of 3-4". Consider using crop protection during warmer months.
Growing Mustard Greens :To ensure proper growth during cooler months, plant Mustard Greens in full sun and use shade cloth in warmer months, especially in hot weather. Adequate soil moisture is crucial for these greens. In Zones 9 and 10, daily hand watering or regular irrigation may be necessary. To prevent pest problems, give Mustard Greens enough space for good airflow.
Harvesting Mustard Greens: Mustard greens can be harvested at any point they are worth eating. Simply strip the greens leaves from the plants and consume raw or cooked.
Growing Mustard Greens in Containers: use a deep container (recommended depth: at least 20 inches). Keep in mind, containers dry out faster due to increased surface area. To retain moisture and regulate temperature, heavily mulch the top layer of soil in the pot.
