Acidanthera bicolor (Peacock Orchid)
Acidanthera (Grow Peacock Orchid Gladiolus, a very rare and beautiful flower. With its Acidanthera features, these bulbs bring a delightful fragrance to your outdoor space. Plant these for a stunning addition to any garden. bicolor var. murielae or Gladiolus callianthus), commonly known as peacock orchid or sword lily, is often grown as an annual but can be grown as a perennial in warmer climates.
It grows best in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 7 through 11.
Plant corms in containers or in the ground in early spring in an area protected from wind. Provide plenty of water, sunlight and fertilizer to keep acidanthera blooming throughout summer and fall. The white flowers can be cut off for display in a vase without risk of harming the plant.
Dig a hole 5 inches deep with a trowel in well-draining soil and place a corm in the hole, tip up. Cover it with soil and pack it down lightly. Space corms at least 4 inches apart. Alternatively, you can plant the small bulbs 6 inches deep in a container filled with potting mix.
Water the bulbs thoroughly until the soil is moist but not soaking wet. Water more during hot or dry periods, and don't allow the soil to dry out between watering.
Fertilize when growth appears in the spring and summer with 10-10-10 fertilizer. Do this every two or three weeks until the foliage begins to die back in fall.
Cover the plants with mulch when the foliage dies back completely in the winter. When new growth resumes the following spring, resume watering and fertilizing.
