Small Jamaican Coco Taro Roots
Fresh Jamaican coco, also called eddoe or small taro, is a starchy root used throughout Caribbean cooking. Once fully cooked, it has a firm, creamy texture and mild, nutty flavor that works well alongside other ground provisions.
Ways to Cook
- Boil until tender, then peel and serve as a side dish
- Add to soups, stews, beans, braises, and curries
- Mash or roast as an alternative to potatoes
- Slice and bake or fry only after proper preparation
Important Preparation Guidance
Do not eat taro raw or undercooked. Raw taro contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals. Handle carefully, peel, and cook thoroughly until tender before eating. Wash hands, utensils, and work surfaces after preparation.
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place and discard roots with mold, extensive soft spots, or off odors. Fresh roots naturally vary in size and shape. Available in 1 lb, 3 lb, 10 lb, and 25 lb options.
