Why Grow Angel Wing Begonia?
- Fragrant blooms — soft pink flower clusters with a light, pleasant fragrance
- Striking foliage — distinctive angel-wing shaped leaves, often with silvery spotting; more light = more colorful leaves
- Versatile size — can be grown as a compact dwarf or trained into a tall floor plant up to 5 feet
- Pest and disease resistant — low-fuss and reliable
- Indoor/outdoor — suitable for houseplant collections, patios, and covered outdoor spaces
- Continuous blooming — produces flowers repeatedly throughout the year with proper care
Care Guide
- Light: Bright indirect light is ideal — an east or west-facing window is perfect. More light encourages more colorful foliage and heavier flowering. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun.
- Water: Keep soil moist but never soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings. Reduce watering in winter. Always water at the base — avoid wetting the leaves.
- Soil: Rich, well-draining potting mix high in organic material. A mix of potting soil with added perlite works well to prevent waterlogging.
- Humidity: Prefers humid environments — mist the air around the plant (not the leaves directly) or use a pebble tray with water. Avoid cold drafts and heating vents.
- Temperature: Moderate, consistent temperatures preferred — 65–75°F. Keep away from cold windows in winter.
- Fertilizer: Feed every 2–3 weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer during spring and summer. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.
- Pruning: Pinch back stem tips to encourage bushier, more compact growth and more abundant blooming.
Outdoor Growing
- Thrives outdoors in dappled shade or bright indirect light in warm climates (Zones 10–11 as perennial; treat as annual or bring indoors before frost elsewhere).
- Excellent for shaded patios, porches, and covered outdoor spaces.
