De Cicco Broccoli Seeds are perfect for growing microgreens in just 7 to 12 days. With a high germination rate and reliable open pollination, these seeds produce compact plants that can grow up to 3 feet tall. The bluish-green main head measures 3 to 4 inches and is perfect for freezing, while many medium sized side shoots will continue to grow after the central head is cut. Non-uniform maturity occurs between 50 and 90 days.

The Italian broccoli, De Cicco, is an heirloom variety that has been popular among gardeners since 1890. It belongs to the species Brassica oleracea and can be harvested in just 50-70 days. This emerald green vegetable is known for its robust growth and can produce central heads measuring 3-5" in width. Approx. 9,000 seeds/ounce.
Sowing: To ensure a faster crop, it is recommended that the Organic non-GMO Broccoli De Cicco seeds be started indoors 5-6 weeks before the last expected frost, when the seedlings reach about 6" tall they can then be planted 1-2' apart in rows 2-3' apart. Alternatively, for direct sowing, plant the seeds 1" deep and 3" apart in full sun and rich soil, approximately 2-3 weeks prior to the last expected spring frost. Germination occurs at low temperatures, as low as 40 degrees F. For fall planting, direct sow the seeds in late July or August. Companion plant broccoli with herbs, potatoes, or onions for additional benefits, but avoid planting it with tomatoes or pole beans.
Growing: Maintain adequate watering for young plants while regularly removing weeds. Utilize mulch to prevent weed growth and maintain soil temperature, and consider multiple applications of fertilizer or compost for optimal growth. In the event of consecutive nights of freezing temperatures, protect the plants by covering them. Additionally, provide a stake for support as the plants mature to prevent top-heavy growth.
Harvesting: Collect the primary head when it is compact and before the flowers start to change color; trim at least 6" of the stalk. Additional shoots will grow along the stalk and can also be gathered; the plant will keep yielding as long as the weather remains optimal.
