The Alum Root or Coral Bells, also known as the Kira Heuchera cultivar, is a popular perennial with striking variegated foliage in shades of lime green and silver. Developed by Danziger, this native North American plant features large pink blooms in the summer months, reaching an average height of 10-12" and a spread of 12-18". It thrives in well-drained soil and can tolerate partial or full sun, making it a versatile choice for rock gardens, containers, borders, and more. This low-maintenance plant is also drought-resistant and heat-tolerant, while being deer-resistant and attractive to pollinators.

1. Plant in partial shade or full sun. Only plant Heuchera in a full sun location that doesn't dry out completely.

2. Water regularly, especially during the first year as the plant establishes a root system.

3. Cut back in fall or remove damaged foliage in spring.

Performs best in light to part shade, though it does better in full sun than most of the dark-leaved heucheras. If grown in full sun, consistent moisture is needed and soil should not be allowed to dry out. Remove stems of faded flower panicles to encourage continued bloom (bloom is more apt to repeat in cool summer climates than hot ones). In cold winter climates, a winter mulch applied after the ground freezes will help prevent root heaving (clumps are shallow-rooted and will develop woody bases rather quickly). Divide clumps in spring every 3-4 years.
