Antirrhinum majus 'Orange Wonder' is a tall, striking snapdragon producing vivid orange-rose flower spikes reaching 36 inches — bold enough to anchor a flower bed and elegant enough to anchor a bouquet. Hummingbirds are drawn to the blooms, and the tall stems make excellent long-lasting cut flowers. Plants are frost-tolerant, deer resistant, and will self-reseed freely, often returning year after year.

Plant Highlights

  • Vivid orange-rose flower spikes to 36 inches tall — striking in beds and borders
  • Excellent long-lasting cut flower; beloved by hummingbirds
  • Frost-tolerant; set out early for extended season color
  • Self-reseeds reliably; deer resistant
  • USDA Zones 3–9

Growing Guide

Starting indoors: Sow 6–8 weeks before the last frost date. Surface-sow on pre-moistened starter mix and gently press seeds in — do not cover; seeds need light to germinate. Harden off seedlings for 10–14 days before transplanting. Pinch back at transplant time to encourage branching.

Direct sowing (mild winters): Sow in a sheltered seedbed in late summer; transplant young plants to their permanent location for winter and spring blooms.

Site and soil: Full sun; rich, moist, well-drained soil, pH 6.0–7.3. Add organic matter for best results. Space 12–18 inches apart. In hot climates, provide afternoon shade. Trim spent spikes to promote a second flush of bloom.
