SEASCAPE STRAWBERRY PLANT
Ideal for summertime and autumn harvests in the Northeastern region, Seascape plants are a top choice for consistent flowering and fruiting throughout the season. These plants produce large quantities of flavorful berries that are best when picked at peak ripeness.
ALBION STRAWBERRY PLANT
The Albion strawberry boasts large, mostly conical, and intensely red fruit. With a day-neutral flavor, it requires a robust watering and nutrient regimen to achieve its impressive yield potential. Consider wider plant spacing for optimal growth and the largest possible berries.
PLANTING
Strawberry plants grow best in sunny or partially shaded areas with moist, well-drained soil. Make sure to use rich fertilizers such as compost or aged manure and maintain a pH level between 6.5-6.8. Prepare beds in advance to prevent unwanted weeds.
Berry plants typically arrive as bare root, but may occasionally be available as plant starts. Store starts in a cool, well-lit area and keep roots moist until ready for planting. Add compost to the soil before planting to improve drainage and nutrients. Gradually acclimate new plants outdoors over a seven day period, ensuring roots are kept wet. Space plants 12 inches (31 cm.) apart in full sun with loose, well-draining soil. Pinch flowers in the first year to promote strong plant growth. Keep bed moist and free of weeds, regularly adding compost in the spring for root nourishment. To protect plants during winter, cover with straw and remove in the spring for compost or weed suppression. Place beer traps or copper tape around the bed to deter slugs and snails. Avoid watering overhead at night to prevent fungal problems. Each plant produces for 3-5 years and offspring will provide fruit for years to come.
