Puschkinia Libanotica (Striped Squill)
Puschkinia, with its pretty pale blue flowers is a close cousin to the Hyacinth. Although its hard to tell by its name, when you see its spiked clusters of perfectly formed flowers, you'll no doubt recognize the family resemblence.
Growing Puschkinia is so easy that its a mystery for us that this darling bulb variety isn't better known. Puschkinia bulbs are what we call 'easy growers'. They are extremely low maintenance and will grow almost anywhere as long as drainage is good. Try also to choose a location that doesn't become too hot or dry over the summer (puschkinia bulbs have a tendency to get a little desiccated in hot weather). Puschkinia bulbs are great for rock gardens!
Plant puschkinia bulbs in the fall in well-drained soil, in either sun or partial shade. When planting in beds, try leaving 2 to 3 inches between each bulb. If planting in containers, you can cluster them more closely together. Following the general rule of bulb planting depth, Puschkinia bulbs need twice their height of soil above them, so plant them 2 to 3 inches deep.
Leave the bulbs alone during their winter growing months. Striped Squill bulbs naturalize easily and usually come back every year for at least the first 3 years. Select your desired size and color from the available option
