White with Crimson Spots & Forest Green Edges — Intricate and Irresistible
Gingerland is a showstopping caladium with some of the most intricate foliage in the genus. Its creamy white heart-shaped leaves are spattered with vivid crimson-red spots and framed by a crisp forest-green border — an exquisite, high-contrast combination that earns admiring looks wherever it grows. Unlike many fancy-leaf caladiums, Gingerland tolerates more sun than most, making it one of the most versatile white-and-red varieties for containers, hanging baskets, and mixed border plantings. Deer resistant and low maintenance, it’s a stress-free season-long performer.
Plant Highlights
- Leaf type: Fancy leaf — heart-shaped, mounded habit
- Colors: Creamy white with crimson red spots and forest green edges; intricate maroon, pink, and green veining
- Height: 12 inches
- Light: Shade to partial sun — more sun tolerant than most fancy-leaf varieties
- USDA Zones: 10–11 (lift tubers in fall in colder zones)
- Pack: 6 bulbs per order
- Deer resistant: Yes
- Great for: Accent, mass planting, containers, hanging baskets, borders
- Thrives in: Heat and humidity
How to Plant Caladium Bulbs
Plant tubers flat side down, eyes facing up, 1–1½ inches deep. Wait until soil temperature reaches 65°F before planting outdoors. For container plantings, de-eye tubers before planting for increased leaf count and uniformity. Pre-sprout indoors 4–6 weeks before moving outside in barely moist growing mix at 70–75°F.
Care Tips
- Soil: Well-draining mix with high organic content
- Water: Keep evenly moist; tubers rot in waterlogged or cold soil
- Light: Shade to partial sun; more sun tolerant than most — great flexibility for garden placement
- Maintenance: Low-maintenance; minimal pruning needed except to remove dieback. No significant pest or disease issues
- Winter storage: In zones below 10, lift tubers before first frost and store in a cool, dry place until spring
Six bulbs per order. Gingerland’s intricate white and crimson speckled foliage is a conversation-starter in any planting — pair it with deep green or bold red caladiums for stunning contrast.
