Tall, Shiny, and Powerfully Red
Royal Flush is a newer fancy-leaf caladium variety that delivers maximum impact — tall, upright, and covered in shiny medium-sized ruffled leaves with deep red centers, red veins, and vivid bright green margins. At 2–2.5 feet tall, it’s one of the tallest caladiums available, making it a natural backdrop for shorter foliage plants or a stunning standalone specimen in a large container. Adaptable from shade to full sun, Royal Flush is built for the heat.
Plant Highlights
- Leaf type: Fancy leaf — medium-sized, ruffled, shiny
- Colors: Deep red center and veins with bright green margins
- Height: Tall — 24–30 inches
- Growth habit: Upright with many leaves
- Light: Shade to full sun tolerant
- USDA Zones: 9–11 (lift tubers in fall in colder zones)
- Great for: Back-of-border, large containers, landscape beds, mixed plantings
- Pairs well with: Hostas, ferns, impatiens, coleus, and shorter caladium varieties
How to Plant Caladium Bulbs
Plant tubers flat side down, eyes facing up, 1–1½ inches deep in 4” pots or larger. Wait until soil temperature reaches 65°F before planting outdoors. For earlier color, pre-sprout indoors 4–6 weeks before moving outside — keep warm (70–75°F) day and night in barely moist growing mix.
Care Tips
- Soil: Well-draining, moist mix with high organic content
- Water: Keep consistently moist; never allow tubers to sit in waterlogged soil
- Light: Highly adaptable — shade to full sun
- De-eyeing: Remove primary sprouts before planting for increased leaf count and fuller plants
- Winter storage: In zones below 9, lift tubers before first frost and store in a cool, dry location until spring
Royal Flush adds dramatic height and bold red color to any planting — place it behind lower-growing varieties for a stunning layered tropical display.
