Delicate Flowers for Borders and Containers
Mixed rain lilies (Zephyranthes) bring delicate flowers above narrow, grass-like foliage. Often called zephyr lilies or fairy lilies, they can flower in flushes after rainfall or watering when warmth and growing conditions are suitable.
Plant a small grouping beside a sunny path or in a patio container where the short-lived blooms can be enjoyed up close. Individual flowers last only a few days, while established bulbs may produce additional flushes during their growing season. Bloom timing and frequency vary.

Choosing a Site
Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Light afternoon shade may help in very hot locations. Avoid ground that stays saturated, especially during cool weather or dormancy.
Rain lily species differ in mature size, flowering season, and cold tolerance. Because this listing is a mix, do not assume that every bulb has the same winter hardiness. In cold-winter areas, containers make it easier to provide frost-free protection.
Planting Your Bulbs
- Plant outdoors when conditions are suitable for warm-season growth and frost risk has passed.
- Loosen the soil or use a well-drained potting mix in a container with drainage holes.
- Set bulbs upright with the pointed neck facing upward. Follow any species-specific depth and spacing instructions supplied with the bulbs.
- Do not automatically plant this unspecified mix 4–8 inches deep; planting depth depends on the stock supplied.
- Water after planting, allowing excess water to drain freely.
Watering and Aftercare
Keep the soil moderately moist during active growth without leaving bulbs in standing water. Watering needs change with temperature, rainfall, container size, and growth stage. Rain-triggered flowering does not mean the bulbs require boggy soil.
Leave green foliage intact after flowering so it can replenish the bulbs. Remove leaves only after they yellow and die back naturally. Feed during active growth according to the label of a fertilizer suitable for flowering bulbs.
Winter Protection
Where outdoor winter survival is uncertain, grow in movable containers and protect from frost. Adjust watering as growth slows, avoiding persistently wet soil around dormant bulbs. Seek stock-specific guidance before leaving an unidentified mix outdoors through freezing weather.
Ornamental Use Only
Do not eat bulbs, leaves, or flowers. Rain lilies can be harmful if ingested. Keep planting stock and plants away from children and pets that may chew them, and wash hands after handling.
