Sea fennel, also called rock samphire, is a perennial coastal herb with fleshy blue-green foliage and rounded clusters of yellow-green flowers. Crithmum maritimum is naturally suited to sunny sites with sandy, gravelly, or rocky soil and excellent drainage.

Starting the Seeds

Choose a sunny position with excellent drainage. Coastal conditions can suit this plant well, but it can also be grown in rock gardens or containers with a gritty mix. Once plants are established, harvest young tender growth with clean scissors and avoid removing too much at one time.
