Bring delicate pink flowers and fern-like foliage to a climbing support with Allegheny vine (Adlumia fungosa). Also called climbing fumitory or mountain fringe, this North American biennial is a relative of the poppy. Its airy stems and finely divided leaves create a soft backdrop for the pink blooms, giving a framework or shrub a woodland-garden feel.

Sowing and germination
Sow into a good soil-based seed-starting mix and cover lightly with fine grit or compost, approximately to the depth of the seed. Aim for temperatures of 59–68°F (15–20°C). Be patient: germination may take 2–3 months or considerably longer, and some seeds may wait until spring to emerge. Do not discard the seed tray too soon.
Growing on
Move individual seedlings into 3-inch pots before planting out in a well-drained position or a very large container. Provide climbing support for the ascending stems. As a biennial, the plant has a two-year life cycle rather than behaving as a permanent perennial vine. It can self-seed where conditions suit it.
Garden uses
Guide the stems over a framework or through a suitable shrub to enjoy the contrast of feathery foliage and soft pink flowers. This is an ornamental flower seed listing, not a fruit or vegetable crop.
