Sweet, Fruity Peppers with a Distinctive Little Beak

Yellow Biquinho peppers, also called Biquinho Amarela or sweet teardrop peppers, produce small yellow fruits with a pointed, beak-like tip. Their sweet, fruity, peppery flavor brings interest to garnishes, pickled pepper mixes, and everyday cooking without the intense heat associated with many other Capsicum chinense peppers.

Grow a plant in a sunny patio pot or vegetable bed and pick the colorful fruits as they ripen to yellow. Their unusual shape makes them as attractive on the plant as they are on a finished dish.

What You Are Ordering

  • Product: Live Yellow Biquinho pepper plants, not seeds or harvested peppers.
  • Pack options: Choose 1 or 3 plants.
  • Botanical species: Capsicum chinense.
  • Fruit: Small, teardrop-shaped peppers, approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) long.
  • Ripe color: Yellow.
  • Flavor and heat: Sweet and fruity with generally very little heat. Heat can vary with the fruit and growing conditions; completely heat-free peppers are not guaranteed.

After Arrival and Planting

  • Unpack promptly and check the growing medium for moisture.
  • Gradually acclimate plants to outdoor sunlight and weather before transplanting.
  • Plant outdoors after frost danger has passed and conditions are consistently warm.
  • Choose full sun and fertile, well-drained soil, or a suitably sized container with drainage holes.
  • Water thoroughly after transplanting and maintain even moisture without leaving roots waterlogged.

Growing and Harvesting

Enrich garden soil with finished compost and feed according to the directions on a fertilizer suitable for vegetables. Mulch around plants to help conserve moisture, keeping mulch away from the stems. Container plants may need more frequent moisture checks during warm weather.

Allow fruit to develop its yellow ripe color before harvesting. Clip or carefully pick peppers without damaging the branches. Ripening takes time and depends on warmth, sunlight, and plant maturity; a specific harvest date is not guaranteed. Protect plants from frost.

Kitchen Uses

Wash harvested peppers before use. Enjoy them as a garnish, in salads, or cooked into dishes. For preserving, use a tested pepper-pickling recipe and follow its processing and storage instructions.

Wash hands after handling peppers and avoid touching your eyes, since even mild varieties can vary in heat.
