Growing Instructions:
Saxifraga seeds benefit from cold stratification for optimal germination. Sow seeds in fall outdoors for natural stratification, or refrigerate for 3-4 weeks before spring sowing. Surface sow seeds on well-draining, gritty soil mix and press lightly without covering, as light aids germination. Keep consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination typically occurs in 2-6 weeks at temperatures of 60-65°F. Prefers full sun to partial shade with excellent drainage. Space plants 6-10 inches apart. Thrives in lean, rocky, well-draining soils. Add grit or coarse sand to improve drainage if needed.
Garden Uses:
Ideal for rock gardens, alpine gardens, scree beds, stone walls, crevice gardens, and containers. Perfect for planting in gaps between paving stones or in vertical rock faces. Pairs beautifully with other alpine plants, sedums, sempervivums, dwarf conifers, and spring bulbs. Excellent for creating naturalized alpine landscapes and miniature rock garden displays.
