Spineless Perfection is a high-performance zucchini variety bred for ease of harvest and visual appeal. The open plant habit puts pods right at eye level with no thorny stems to fight through โ€” spineless, as the name promises. Fruits are straight, cylindrical, and glossy with minimal scarring, growing to a uniform 8 inches (20 cm). Strong disease resistance and a prolific mid-to-late season yield make this an excellent choice for market growers and home gardeners alike.

Growing Guide

Direct sowing (recommended): Sow outdoors 2โ€“4 weeks after the last frost when soil has warmed above 60ยฐF. Summer squash direct-sows easily and usually outperforms transplants.

Starting indoors (short-season climates): Sow 2โ€“4 weeks before the last frost in individual pulp pots to avoid root disturbance at transplant time.

Harvest โ€” the key to continuous yield: Pick regularly โ€” this is the most important step. Harvest at 3 inches for baby zucchini; 6โ€“8 inches for standard use. Fruits left to grow past 10โ€“12 inches become seedy and woody โ€” the plant reads this as "job done" and slows production. Keep them picked and they will keep coming.

Blossom harvest: Collect male and female blossoms in mid-to-late morning when fully open. Male flowers have thin stems; female flowers have thick stems with a tiny immature fruit at the base. Clip 1โ€“2 inches below the base with scissors. Leave at least some male flowers to ensure pollination of female ones.
