Fiery Color to Start Your Tulip Season
Flair tulips bring a lively combination of deep orange-red petals and yellow edges to the spring garden. This single, early-blooming tulip creates a bright focal point in sunny borders and containers, with upright flowers that are also lovely for cutting.
Plant a group in fall beside a walkway or in a patio pot, then enjoy a burst of warm color as the tulip season begins. Set aside a few stems for a simple spring arrangement indoors.
What You Are Ordering
- Product: Tulip bulbs for planting, not seeds or flowering potted plants.
- Variety: Tulipa 'Flair'.
- Pack options: Choose 10 or 25 bulbs from the available sizes.
- Flower form: Single blooms.
- Color: Deep orange-red petals edged in yellow.
- Bloom season: Early in the spring tulip season; timing varies by climate and weather.
Where to Plant
Choose full sun to partial sun and average to fertile soil with good drainage. Use in garden beds, borders, cutting gardens, or containers with drainage holes. Avoid sites where water collects around the bulbs.
Fall Planting and Care
- Prepare loose, well-drained soil before planting in fall.
- Position bulbs with pointed ends upward, planting approximately two to three times the bulb's height deep.
- Water after planting to settle the soil. During growth, provide moisture as needed without keeping the soil waterlogged.
- Tulips need a winter chilling period to flower. Gardeners in warm-winter climates should obtain locally appropriate chilling and planting guidance before planting.
- If using bulb fertilizer, follow the product's label directions and avoid placing concentrated fertilizer directly against bulbs.
After Flowering
Remove spent flower heads, but leave green foliage intact so it can replenish the bulbs. Remove leaves only after they have yellowed and died back naturally. Deadheading does not produce a second round of flowers that season.
Like many hybrid tulips, Flair may be short-lived in the garden and is often grown for a single-season display. Repeat flowering depends on climate and growing conditions; replanting in fall can help maintain a consistent spring display.
Protecting Your Bulbs
Tulips are not deer-resistant. Deer may browse foliage and flowers, while squirrels, voles, and other small mammals may disturb or eat bulbs. Use suitable protection where these animals are active.
Ornamental use only: Do not eat tulip bulbs or other plant parts. Keep them away from children and pets; tulips are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested.
