Creamy White Trumpets for a Fresh Spring Display

Narcissus 'Mount Hood' is a trumpet daffodil with broad white petals and a large trumpet that opens pale yellow before fading toward creamy white. The changing trumpet color gives each planting a soft blend of ivory and cream as the flowers mature.

Plant groups along a path or through a perennial border to enjoy their bright spring display. Where growing conditions suit them, established clumps can return and gradually increase, creating a fuller planting over time.

  • Garden uses: Borders, grouped beds, and naturalized plantings.

Arrival Care and Fall Planting

Unpack bulbs promptly. If planting must wait, keep them in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from food and pets. Do not leave bulbs in damp, sealed packaging.

  • Plant in fall when soil has cooled and before it freezes solid, allowing time for roots to establish.
  • Choose full sun to partial sun and well-drained soil. Avoid sites that remain waterlogged.
  • Place bulbs with the pointed ends upward, following the planting depth supplied with your stock.
  • Space approximately 6 inches apart, leaving room for clumps to develop.
  • Water after planting to settle the soil, allowing excess water to drain.

In warm-winter regions, check local suitability and chilling requirements before planting. Flowering depends on seasonal conditions and is not guaranteed in every climate.

Watering and Feeding

Keep soil moderately moist during active growth when rainfall is insufficient, without keeping it saturated. Adjust watering to soil drainage and weather rather than following a fixed weekly amount.

If feeding is needed, use a fertilizer suitable for flowering bulbs according to its label and local soil recommendations. Avoid excessive nitrogen and direct contact between concentrated fertilizer and bulbs.

After Flowering

Remove faded flowers if desired, but retain healthy leaves until they yellow and die back naturally. Do not cut green foliage to a fixed height or tie it into bundles; the leaves replenish the bulbs for the next season.

Reduce supplemental watering as the plants become dormant, while maintaining good drainage. Bulbs can remain in suitable garden soil. If crowded clumps flower less well, lift and divide after the foliage has died back, handling bulbs carefully and replanting at an appropriate local time.

Important Safety Information

Daffodils are toxic if eaten, especially the bulbs. Never use them as food or confuse them with edible onions or garlic. Keep bulbs and plants away from children and pets. Wear gloves when handling if sensitive to sap, and wash hands afterward.
