Growing from Seed

Scarification: Soak seeds in water for 24–48 hours before stratification (change water daily if soaking for 48 hours).

Cold stratification: Mix soaked seeds with moist vermiculite or peat in a sealed plastic bag and refrigerate for 30 days. Do not freeze. Alternatively, sow in a mulched outdoor seedbed in fall for natural stratification and spring germination.

Sowing: After stratification, sow ¼ inch deep in clean seed-starting mix; tamp soil firmly and mulch the seedbed. Maintain even moisture; germination typically takes 1–3 weeks once conditions warm.

Seedling care: Ensure good air circulation around seedlings to prevent damping off. Use clean or new soil and vermiculite. Do not overwater — pre-treated seeds prefer warm, moist (not saturated) conditions.
