What You Are Ordering
- Quantity: 2 begonia tubers, commonly sold as bulbs.
- Variety: Roseform Yellow.
- Flower color: Bright yellow.
- Product: Tubers for planting, not seeds or flowering potted plants.
- Best uses: Patio containers and partially shaded garden beds.
Planting Your Tubers
Start tubers in spring in a free-draining, peat-free multipurpose compost or suitable potting mix. Set the hollow or concave side upward, close to the surface, with a light covering of mix. Keep in a bright, frost-free location while growth develops. Move outdoors only after your local frost danger has passed, gradually introducing plants to outdoor conditions.
Light, Water, and Feeding
- Light: Choose dappled sunlight or partial shade, sheltered from harsh afternoon sun.
- Drainage: Use containers with drainage holes and avoid waterlogged planting sites.
- Water: Water consistently during active growth, keeping the mix moist but not saturated. Avoid leaving pots standing in water.
- Feeding: Once plants are growing actively, apply a flowering-plant or high-potash fertilizer according to its label directions.
- Seasonal display: Remove faded flowers to keep plants tidy and enjoy blooms through the warm season.
Overwintering
Tuberous begonias are frost sensitive. As growth dies back in autumn, reduce watering and protect tubers from frost. Store dormant tubers in a cool, dry, frost-free place, then restart them in spring. Do not leave tubers in cold, soggy soil.
Safety: Grow as an ornamental, not for eating. Keep tubers away from pets and children.
