Untreated Brown Lentil Seeds
Grow brown lentils for home cooking or sprout them at home. These versatile seeds add an earthy, satisfying flavor to soups, stews, curries and dhal.
About this variety
- Branching annual plants that grow about 30–40 cm tall
- Flowers may be white, lilac or pale blue
- Small pods about 1 cm long, typically containing two seeds
Growing information
Choose a sunny location and loose, well-drained soil. Sow according to the spacing and depth on your seed packet, and keep the soil evenly moist while plants establish. Avoid waterlogged soil. Let pods mature and dry before harvesting lentils for storage.
How to sprout
- Soak 2 tablespoons of seeds for 8–12 hours.
- Drain, rinse and drain well twice a day, morning and evening.
- Sprouts are typically ready in 5–6 days. Use clean equipment and refrigerate sprouts when ready.
