Asarina procumbens (syn. Antirrhinum asarina) — Trailing or Creeping Snapdragon — is a prostrate, spreading perennial with soft, hairy grey-green leaves and charming white snapdragon-style flowers blotched with yellow and red. Blooms profusely throughout summer for many months without ever becoming a nuisance — it self-seeds gently and gracefully. Growing Guide
Best sowing time: Sow in winter or early spring. Seeds benefit from a cold, moist period in damp compost to break dormancy — do not skip this step for best germination.
Sowing: Cover seeds very thinly with fine sand or fine grit to approximately the depth of the seed. Keep compost damp throughout the germination period.
Cold treatment: If seeds have not germinated within 6–12 weeks, place the damp seed tray in the refrigerator for approximately 4 weeks, then return to normal conditions. Seeds can take many months to appear — do not discard the tray.
Site and soil: Full sun to partial shade; rich, well-drained soil, pH 6.0–7.0. Space 12 inches apart.
