Dusty Miller (Cineraria Maritima Silverdust) makes a lovely accent plant in the border or in containers
Germinate Dusty Miller seeds indoors in starter trays 4 - 6 weeks prior to the final frost date. Place the flower seeds lightly into the peat moss and maintain moisture until they start to sprout. Move seedlings to an outdoor garden after frost season has ended. Keep the Dusty Miller plants spaced approximately 10 inches apart.
Start this attractive annual from Dusty Miller seeds! It is known for its attractive silvery-gray foliage and mounding form and makes a lovely accent plant in the border or in containers. Dusty Miller Silverdust has lacy, lobed and deeply cut, silvery gray leaves and grows to 8 - 12 inches tall and wide.
Dusty Miller plants can winter over and act like a perennial in warmer areas, and mulching helps it survive the winter. Another common name for Cineraria Maritima is Silver Ragwort. The botanical name may also be Senecio cineraria.
Dusty Miller produces flowers that are golden yellow in color. The silvery colored foliage makes a wonderful back-drop for brightly colored bedding plants. The contrasts can be very striking. Shear or pinch back plants if they become leggy. Cineraria Maritima plants are tolerant of many soils, prefers full sun and a well-drained site.
