Hawaiian Punch Elephant Ear is an exquisite cultivar featuring richly-colored burgundy stems and veins, paired with lightly hued, arrow-shaped foliage. For those interested in exploring tropical foliage, but seeking a compact option, Hawaiian Punch Elephant Ear makes for an excellent selection for containers or garden beds. This deer-resistant plant will give your garden months of foliage color in full sun or part-shade. (Colocasia esculenta)
- Exotic Tropical Foliage
- Thrives in Hot Weather
- Grows Well in Containers
To successfully cultivate elephant ears, carefully plant the corms (bulbs) in nutrient-rich, well-drained soil with partial shade. Bury them at a depth of 2-4 inches, spacing them with 2-4 feet between each bulb. It is important to maintain consistent moisture by watering regularly, especially in hot weather, and occasional fertilization may be beneficial. For colder regions, consider treating them as annuals and storing the bulbs indoors during winter. While most varieties prefer partial shade, darker-colored types can tolerate more direct sunlight. Careful protection from strong winds is also recommended.
