Consolida ajacis (syn. Delphinium consolida) Rocket Larkspur Mixed is a tall, airy annual wildflower producing forked, branching stems with deeply lacy foliage and abundant 1-inch spurred blooms in white, lilac, and pink. A cottage garden and cutting garden classic that grows quickly from direct-sown seed, blooms through summer, and self-sows reliably — naturalizing in meadows, borders, and fence lines with little care. Deer resistant and beloved by pollinators.

Approx. 15,687 seeds per oz.

⚠️ Note: All parts of this plant are poisonous. Do not consume seeds or plant material. Keep away from children and pets.

Plant Highlights

  • Tall, branching stems to 36 inches; lacy foliage and spurred blooms in white, lilac, and pink
  • Excellent cut flower — elegant and long-stemmed
  • Self-sows freely; naturalizes beautifully in meadow and border settings
  • Direct-sow annual; easy to grow from seed
  • Deer resistant; attracts pollinators

Growing Guide

Cold stratification (for best results): Place seeds on a damp paper towel, seal in a zip-lock bag, and refrigerate for 1–2 weeks before sowing. This simulates winter dormancy and improves germination.

Direct sowing (recommended): After stratification, sow directly outdoors in prepared soil, pressing seeds thinly — cover lightly, no more than the thickness of the seed. Keep moist until germination (14–28 days at 50°F). Larkspur does not transplant well; direct sowing is strongly preferred.

Timing: Sow in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked, or in fall for early spring germination. Larkspur prefers cool conditions for germination.

Site & soil: Full sun to partial shade; moist, well-drained soil, pH 6.1–7.3. Space or thin to 12–18 inches apart.

Ongoing care: Cut plants back hard after blooms are spent to encourage a second flush of blooms later in the season. Allow some plants to set seed for self-sowing naturalization.
