Start from seed
Sow seeds about ⅛–¼ inch deep in a warm, well-draining seed-starting mix. Germination can be irregular and may begin in about two weeks under suitable conditions. Keep the mix lightly moist, never waterlogged, and be patient as seedlings establish; young plants may grow slowly.
Choose a dry, sunny site
Transplant seedlings to a bright location with sandy or rocky, fast-draining soil. This desert shrub tolerates dry conditions but should not sit in standing water. Mature size varies with growing conditions, and established plants can become several feet tall.
