Plant Details
- Botanical name: Potentilla nepalensis
- Cultivar: ‘Miss Willmott’
- Common name: Cinquefoil
- Flower color: Rosy pink to raspberry with darker centers
- Light: Full sun to partial shade
- Best uses: Borders, rock gardens, cottage gardens, and containers
Starting the Seeds
Sow on the surface of a moist, well-drained seed-starting mix and press the seeds gently into place. Do not bury deeply, because light can support germination. Keep the surface evenly moist without waterlogging and provide airflow. Germination timing varies with temperature, moisture, and seed conditions.
Transplanting and Care
When seedlings are large enough to handle, move them into individual containers. Harden young plants gradually before transplanting outdoors after severe frost danger has passed. Choose well-drained soil and space plants to allow spreading growth and airflow.
Water regularly during establishment. Once plants are growing actively, adjust watering to local weather and soil conditions. Remove spent flower stems to tidy the display, and trim growth as needed to maintain the desired shape.
Garden Design
Use ‘Miss Willmott’ near the front of mixed borders, among stones in a rock garden, or in informal cottage-style plantings. Flowering time, mature size, and winter survival vary with climate and care.
Choose packages of 100, 400, or 1,000 seeds.
