Celery, Red Venture Apium graveolens
Deep red stems with bright green leaves make this beautifully unusual variety stand out. The productive plants produce succulent red stalks with real celery flavor that are much more tender and juicy than other red varieties. Stalks retain their color when cooked.
100-110 days. A stunningly colored and robust, red celery variety that will become your favorite for its continual harvests of gorgeous, succulent stalks. A range of red shades from burgundy to brilliant red and even blanched to golden pink, all with green foliage. From the breeding talents of Frank Morton who crossed the heirloom, Giant Red with Ventura.
Start seeds indoors 8 weeks before last frost. Seedlings are slow to start. Transplant outdoors 10 inches apart when 1-2 sets of true leaves emerge. Celery is a heavy feeder and needs plenty of moisture. Nutrient deficiencies can affect the quality of the stalks and insufficient water can result in tough, fibrous texture.
