BAREROOT,- Bearded Iris
Starting Fresh’s clean white standards are subtly suffused with yellow at the base. Amethyst rose bands dramatically edge its snow white falls as shown in our picture. Large, pretty orange beards bring an air of festivity. Starting Fresh is blessed with nonpareil form. It has large flowers, tall stalks, good branching, and is triple-socketed, with 8 buds per stem. An ideal variety for beginning an Iris garden.
The mid-season blooms of this bearded Iris will make you want to burst out in song! The ruffled standards are a showy flamingo pink, the falls are a wonderfully striped and striated cerise-purple, and the bright tangerine beards peek out from the center, catching your eye.
A purebred Iris of the highest caliber, 'Cherry Blossom Song' touts a lineage including 'So Fine', 'Sweet Musette', and 'Frances Gaulter', just to name a few! Growing about 36 inches tall, this impressive specimen is ideal for the back of the border. Thanks to its deer resistance and wonderfully low-maintenance nature, it is one of the best-suited flowers for cottage gardens and woodland settings.
Bearded Iris (I. Germanica) are very easy to care for. All they require is full sun and moist, well-drained soil to produce their huge, stunningly-colored blooms every season. Iris can naturalize an area over time, spreading by rhizome. After a few years your Iris may get crowded
Bearded irises are not actually bulbs, but rhizomes, a kind of thick brown root. Hardy in zones 3-10, the rhizomes need plenty of sun to bloom well and regularly. They do best in well drained soil, but will tolerate less drainage in drier areas.
Iris should be planted so the tops of the rhizomes are exposed and the roots are spread out facing downward in the soil. In very light soils or in extremely hot climates, covering the rhizome with 1 inch of soil may be desirable. Firm the soil around each rhizome and then water to help settle the soil.
