Ruffled Blooms with Warm Spring Color

Avignon Parrot tulips bring large, sculptural flowers to the late-spring garden. Deeply cut, ruffled petals combine coral and cerise-red tones with warm orange and touches of green, creating a richly textured display.

Group them near a garden path to appreciate their intricate petals, or grow a patch for cutting. In a vase, their expressive stems and unusual flower shapes make even a small arrangement feel distinctive.

What You Are Ordering

  • Product: Tulip bulbs for planting, not seeds or flowering potted plants.
  • Variety: Tulipa 'Avignon Parrot'.
  • Type: Parrot tulip, a mutation of the Single Late tulip 'Avignon'.
  • Pack options: Choose 10, 25, or 100 bulbs from the available sizes.
  • Flower form: Large blooms with deeply cut, ruffled petals.
  • Bloom season: Late spring, with timing dependent on climate and weather.

Where to Grow

Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Use in flower beds, borders, cutting gardens, or containers with drainage holes. A sheltered position helps protect the large blooms from strong winds.

Fall Planting Instructions

  1. Prepare a well-drained planting area in fall. Avoid low spots where water collects.
  2. Plant bulbs approximately 6 inches deep, with the pointed ends facing upward.
  3. Arrange in informal groups rather than a single straight row for a fuller-looking spring display.
  4. Water after planting to settle the soil, then avoid persistently soggy conditions.

Tulips require a winter chilling period to flower. In warm-winter climates, seek locally appropriate chilling and planting guidance before planting.

Flowering and Aftercare

Cut a few stems for indoor arrangements, or leave the blooms in place to enjoy in the garden. Remove spent flower heads after flowering, but keep green foliage intact until it yellows and dies back naturally. The leaves help replenish the bulbs.

Repeat flowering depends on climate and growing conditions. Like many hybrid tulips, this variety may be grown for a single-season display; planting fresh bulbs in fall can help maintain a consistent show.

Protecting Your Planting

Tulips are not deer-resistant. Deer may browse the foliage and flowers, and squirrels or other small mammals may disturb bulbs. Use suitable garden protection where needed.

Ornamental use only: Do not eat tulip bulbs or other plant parts. Keep planting stock away from children and pets; tulips are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested.
