Clematis need a moist, well-drained soil with an exposure of one half day to a full day of sun. the plant should be mulched and kept moist, especially during the growing season. Fertilizer every four weeks during the growing season with a well-balanced liquid fertilizer. Prepare a hole at least 1 foot deep and mix 50% peat moss or well rotted manure.
