JACOB'S LADDER SEEDS -Creeping Jacob's ladder- attractive to bees, birds, and butterflies.Creeping Jacob's ladder , Winter hardy to zone 2.
Polemonium reptans, commonly called creeping Jacob's ladder, native wildflower that occurs in rich, moist woods and along streams throughout the State except for the far northeastern counties. Typically grows in a mound to 12" (less frequently to 18") tall. Features light blue, bell-shaped flowers (to 3/4" long) in loose, terminal clusters appearing on sprawling, weak stems in mid to late spring. Pinnately compound leaves with oval leaflets are arranged like the rungs of a lad
To start seed indoors, sow two months before your last frost date if you want to transplant in spring, or sow in mid-summer if you want to transplant in the fall. The seeds take up to a month to germinate and should be kept moist until then. Transplant outdoors in spring just before your last frost date, or in early to mid-fall.
How To Grow Outdoor: Sow Jacob's Ladder seeds indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the predicted last frost date or directly outdoors after frost season is over and night time temps are warm. Surface sow Jacob's Ladder flower seeds on good seed starting mix, gently pressing the herb seeds into the mix and lightly covering. Moisten the mix and keep it moist until germination begins.
Light is required for best germination. When the seedlings are established, prick out each seedling as it becomes large enough to handle and transplant into 3 inch pots. Gradually acclimatize the Jacob's Ladder seedlings to outdoor conditions for 10 - 15 days before planting out into their permanent positions, space 12 - 18 inches apart. Jacob's Ladder care includes deadheading spent blooms to prolong bloom time.
