Sweet Peas Seeds - Lathyrus latifolius 'White Pearl'
Everlasting Sweet Pea, Perennial Sweet Pea, Lathyrus latifolius 'Albus' Hardy Perennial
Sweet Pea (Lathyrus Latifolius Pearl White) - Grow these popular flowers from Sweet Peas seeds. Perennial Sweet Pea vine is smothered in showy clusters of pure white flowers from June to September among grey-green leaves. Everlasting Pea is a vigorous climber, and the vine looks wonderful climbing up a trellis, scrambling over a sunny wall or through a hedge or evergreen shrub. Unlike annual Sweet Pea, perennial Sweet Pea flowers have no fragrance.
Despite its lack of scent, Everlasting Pea Vine has not lost its popularity among gardeners. Sweet Peas are one of the best cut flowers, and they bloom over such a long period that you can have many bouquets. This plant thrives in full sun, but can tolerate light shade. The more shade it gets, the less blooms you will receive. Cut the dead stems back in winter or early spring.
For best germination, Sweet Pea flower seeds need to be scarified before sowing. Nicking the seed with a nail clipper breaks the outer coat of the flower seed so it can absorb water immediately. By doing this a larger percentage of the seeds will germinate and they will sprout a few days earlier. After nicking the seed, soak the Sweet Peas seeds over night in tepid water.
Sow Sweet Pea flower seeds directly outdoors after frost season has passed. Prepare a seed bed by loosening the top 1 - 2 inches of soil and weeding. Sow Everlasting seeds 2 - 3 inches apart, and thin Sweet Pea seedlings later to desired spacing. Have a trellis or wire for them to attach to as they will begin to climb very quickly after germination.
